There is a record interest in courses at the Faculty of Civil Engineering this year. Also thanks to cooperation with companies such as PKV

“A few years ago we realized that we were struggling with a bad image of the industry. When people say construction, people often think of boots, mud, getting up early and working away from home. But we show them a world full of modern technologies, attractive materials, advanced modeling, inventions, the deployment of robotic solutions and even 3D printing, thanks to which it is already possible to create entire structures.” explains the dean of the faculty Rostislav Drochytka.
According to him, the key to success is that the students already know at the faculty what it will look like in their later work. In recent years, the school has established several important partnerships with companies whose representatives come to give regular lectures — for example, how to price construction contracts, how a project approach is different in the case of a family house and different when building a logistics complex or an office park, what facilities management entails, or how construction companies keep up with rapid technological developments.
“Builder doesn't have to end up on construction”
“Not every graduate works as a purebred builder. Some may become a manager in development, others supervise the energy of buildings or develop modern materials, others focus on facility management or the real estate market. We try to take all of this into account.” calculates Dean Drochytka and recalls that the big theme of today is reducing the energy performance of buildings and taking into account the sustainability of the construction industry.
It is the experts from PKV BUILD that acquaint students with this. Jiří Pech and Ondřej Vaněk are graduates of the faculty and have built the company from scratch on consulting related to building energy performance certificates. Today, PKV is the most important Czech company in the field of energy analysis of buildings and the design of cost-saving measures, including the use of renewable resources.
“In our daily work, we see how few people there are who know how to connect different points of view. The labor market lacks those who know how to combine knowledge about buildings and their behavior with energy, are able to work with the life cycle of buildings and design optimizations that have economy. Therefore, we take our membership on the Faculty's Industrial Council as an opportunity to move the whole thing forward.” said Pech, who sees dozens of students in PKV every year on different types of internships and internships.
