They consume tens of MWh per month. Energy at EGU HV Laboratory is now monitored by Enmon Energy Management

Power consumption is like background noise -- until you watch it, you don't even notice it's there. But even the unobtrusive noise can fundamentally affect your business, such as unnecessarily high costs, overloaded reserved capacities or poorly timed operations. EGU HV Laboratory shows that even with technically complex operation, consumption can be firmly in the hands. This is also thanks to the Enmon energy management platform, which they recently implemented together with PKV.

A world-class laboratory with a global reach

EGU HV Laboratory is unique in the Czech and European context. “We are an accredited and fully independent testing facility for very high voltage. We carry out tests of power transmission and distribution equipment for customers around the world,” says Jan Lachmanwho leads the company as its managing director.

In addition to tests, the company is also engaged in research and development — mainly in cooperation with Czech energy companies. And it is the high level of expertise that places high demands on accuracy and reliability of operation. “Every device must be operated exactly. But we also want to know exactly how much energy we consume.” supplied by Lachman

Energy intensity: challenge and opportunity

The consumption of the laboratory varies in orders of magnitude lower tens of MWh per month. It is most affected by long-term tests — for example, tests with temperature cycles. And since it is often about continuous operation, fluctuations in subscription are a common reality.

“It is difficult to find savings in the field of tests themselves. We cannot shorten processes because it would compromise their quality. But even so, there are areas where consumption can be optimised — for example, time management or reactive energy compensation,” explains Lachman.

The Path to Quality Data and Decisions

And it is at this point that it comes into play cooperation with PKV. “Our goal was to better understand When and where we consume the most energy. We wondered what kind of daily diagrams we have, where extremes arise, and what can be done about it,” describes the motivation for the implementation of the system Enmon, digital platforms for energy management.

EGU HV Laboratory Now tracks your consumption in real time. They see not only current demand, but also long-term trends, usage spikes, or options for optimizing reserved capacity at the electricity supplier. “Given the continued increase in the number of test facilities, it was important for us to keep the increase in consumption under control. That's exactly what we Enmon allows,” says Lachman.

💡 Co je to Enmon?

Enmon je platforma pro energetický management, kterou implementuje společnost PKV. Pomáhá firmám a institucím sledovat, vyhodnocovat a řídit spotřebu energií a počítat uhlíkovou stopu. Kromě přehledů v reálném čase dodává i podklady pro strategická rozhodnutí o optimalizaci spotřeby energií a dekarbonizaci.

Analyzing the data will also help an external energy company

Getting the data is the first step. But in order to bring about real change, It is necessary to evaluate them regularly, to find connections and to propose concrete austerity measures. “In our operation, it is very time consuming. And at the same time, we want someone to deal with it systematically and professionally.” says Jan Lachman.

Therefore, together with PKV, they are now working on the service external energy engineer, who will help the company in the long term with the analysis of data from Enmon, the design of optimization measures and the supervision of consumption. For EGU HV, this means not only an overview, but also concrete steps towards efficiency. And that's without putting a strain on their own team.

PKV View

V EGU HV Laboratory k tomu přistoupili systematicky.
